In a knowledge-based economy, creativity is integral to business and to the development of innovation strategies. More than ever, it has become imperative for businesses, organizations and institutions to learn to be creative.
This intensive program offered in English will compare creative approaches and practices from diverse fields ranging from industry and arts to science. The creative process and its management will be analysed from a multi-disciplinary, intercultural, international and intergenerational perspective. The two-week program will enable the participants, hailing from academia, industry and the public sector, to reflect and integrate the practices of these diverse spheres.
Montreal and Barcelona are two of the most creative cities in the world, rich in culture and sharing numerous traits. Both are host to world renowned festivals occuring during the Summer School, notably, the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the GREC'09 Festival of Barcelona. The participants in this unique program will create an international network of managers motivated and dedicated to managing creativity and unleashing the creative potential of their organizations.
Program Structure Theoretical courses Basic courses covering the main aspects of creativity management will be given. These include: • Creativity: place, roles, definitions. • Disciplinary approaches to creativity: psychology, sociology, management, economics, history, etc.. • Creativity and innovation • Creative industries • Creative territories and cities • Social Creativity • Management of creative talents • Property rights and creativity
Creativity workshops Provide an opportunity to practice different creativity techniques including, among others: • Mexican cards • Collective experience of "drums" • The TRIZ method • Cognitive maps, stories • de Bono "Six Thinking Hats"
Visits to businesses - conferences, debates or interviews with great creators The visits play an important role. They focus primarily on Montreal and Barcelona's "core competences" in creative activities: video game, circus arts, multimedia, aerospace, for Montreal; architecture, industrial design, biotechnology for Barcelona; or shared by the two (gastronomy), as well as in the field of social creativity.
